SPMS STUDENT CLUBS & ORGANIZATIONS

Each SPMS club, program, and organization has its own specific membership standards and is supervised by South Pasadena Middle School staff. Please check with the advisor to see what is required. Art Club– Ms. Denise Tanaka – Dtanaka@spusd.net — Art Club meets weekly to draw, paint, and explore art. All grades are welcome. Learn more at: https://spmsart.wordpress.com

ASB (Associated Student Body) – Mrs. Emily Williams – ewilliams@spusd.net–ASB is a great place for students who like taking charge and helping make the school a better place. This is a service organization, with an application and acceptance process held each spring.

Builders Club– Mrs. Julie Ryu, Mrs. Emily Hoffman – jryu@spusd.net,ehoffman@spusd.net–Developing young leaders through service, contributing to the betterment of our school and community by writing letters to patients at Children’s Hospital, cleaning up the Arroyo, helping at the Ronald McDonald House, building a garden at the school, raising money for SPEF, buying toiletries for Homeless Services, and more!

Campus Christian Fellowship– Mr. Dean McCoy, Mrs. Stephanie Jenkins – dmccoy@spusd.net, sjenkins@spusd.net –Everyone is invited to this student group. Students lead in singing, and organize a Christian-value message through presentation, video, or game.

Drama Group– Mrs. Maracine – mmaracine@spusd.net

Empathy Club— Emily Williams — ewilliams@spusd.net –Gathers every Thursday at lunch for conversations and a chance to build relationship and get to know one another better. Helps to create connections among students in a social and supportive way. Their core beliefs and goals are: empathy, inclusivity, cultivating curiosity about people, understanding other’s perspective. No fees, no grade minimums — just show up and join the conversation!

Math Team– Mr. McCoy, Ms. Chen, Mr. Aispuro – dmccoy@spusd.net, kchen@spusd.net, eaispuro@spusd.net— SPMS Math Team participates in more than one dozen events, local, state, national, and international math competitions.

Spring Musical — Led by the San Gabriel Valley Music Theatre, the students put on a show! They learn how to build sets, create costumes, and act while singing and dancing. This year’s show will be announced at Club & Organization Night, Wednesday, September 19,  7-8:00 p.m., in the Cafeteria. Come and find out what everybody’s been waiting for!

Tiger Cub Broadcast Journalism– They pre-produce, write, produce, edit, and broadcast weekly shows that are newsworthy for the SPMS community, and are available on a secure YouTube channel.

Tigerettes– Ms. Ani Kazanjian – akazanjian@spusd.net— Tigerettes perform at school, sports events, fairs, and parades.

Upstanders— Mrs. Emily Williams —ewilliams@spusd.net— Standing up for what is right, helping others, being inclusive, and welcoming to everyone. They meet every Wednesday morning from 7:00-7:45 a.m. There’s no application process, but members are held to rigorous character expectations. On campus, they help solve conflicts between peers and improve the overall culture on campus.

This year, Upstanders held their first inclusive Multicultural Faire on campus (November 2, 2:00-3:30 p.m.) They had music, food, dancing, costumes, passports for students to build, and prizes!

W.E.B.– Mrs. Emily Hoffman, Mr. Adanto – ehoffman@spusd.net– WEB is a middle school transition program that welcomes 6thgraders and makes them feel comfortable through the first year of their middle school experience. WEB, an acronym for Where Everybody Belongs, is built on the belief that students want to – and can – help other students succeed. This is a service organization, with an application and acceptance process held each spring.

Yearbook and Tiger Cub Times– Mr. Eric Hilger –ehilger@spusd.net— The yearbook is the published annually by the students, with photographs of students, faculty, and staff. Tiger Cub Times is an online weekly publishing by the yearbook staff about recent school events.

8th Grade Activities– This is a group of 8th Graders representing the 8th Grade Class.  They meet regularly with the 8th Grade Advisor to work on dances, 8th Grade spirit wear, donations, and more.
